Therapy With Me
The Process
CONSULTATION
It’s natural to feel a little unsure when you first start therapy. That’s what the phone consultation is all about…sharing a little about what’s going on, asking any questions you may have and learning a little about how I can help. It’s also an opportunity to see if we “vibe,” as the kids say. (Do they still say that?)
first session
The purpose of the first session is to learn about you. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and what life might look like if you got what you needed out of our work together. We’ll get into your history—childhood and life experiences—and discuss your mental health journey, including anxiety, depression and trauma symptoms. You are free to disclose at your own comfort level. Just know that the things you share about yourself help to give me the whole picture of you—body, mind and spirit. Maybe you’re still trying to figure how who you are, and that’s okay, too.
ongoing sessions
During the active phase of therapy, sessions take place on a weekly or bimonthly basis. During this time, we are working towards goals around personal growth and/or reducing symptoms of mental illness. This phase of therapy typically lasts 6 months to up to 2 years, depending on the specific goals being addressed. Often, when primary goals of therapy are achieved, you “graduate” and enter what is referred to as the maintenance phase (like oil changes for your car). During this time, you can schedule sessions periodically to help keep you on track regarding a meaningful life as defined by YOU.
Therapy is an investment that gives you the tools, support, and insight to build a meaningful life as defined by YOU.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, I accept BCBS. Once you submit your information, my office will look up your benefits and provide you with the most up-to-date information posted in the BCBS system. However, we won’t get confirmation on copays, co-insurance, deductibles, etc. until the first claim is processed, at which point, we will communicate any changes.
If you have a different insurance carrier, I’m happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance carrier for possible reimbursement. However, payment will be expected at the time of service and there’s no guarantee that your insurance carrier will pay.
Bear in mind that to cover treatment, insurance requires a mental health disorder diagnosis that goes in your medical record. The clinical diagnosis is based on your current symptoms even though you may have been previously diagnosed. We will discuss your diagnosis during the session. Your insurance company will know the times and dates of services provided and may request further information to authorize additional services regarding treatment.

You are responsible for attending each appointment. You will receive a text/email reminder of your appointment two days prior. If you cannot keep the scheduled appointment, you must notify our office to cancel or reschedule the appointment 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. If you cancel or reschedule more than once, we may re-evaluate your needs, desires, and motivations for treatment at this time.
Keep in mind that insurance panels do not cover missed appointments. Therefore, in the event of a late cancellation, you are responsible for the full fee (not just your copay) for the missed appointment. Feel free to contact me with any further questions.
-
The fee for a 50-minute therapy session is currently $125 or based on the criteria of your BCBS plan (i.e., co-pay, coinsurance, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, etc.). Rates are subject to change at any time, but every effort will be made to communicate changes in a timely manner. Payment is due at the time of service. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, credit/debit card, or check.
At this time, I do not offer fees on a sliding scale.
